Will You Eat Anything?

Food Fads

We live in an age of “food fads,” gluten free, dairy free, wheat free, fat free –  the list goes on and on. There are some individuals, about 5% of the population, who may have  genuine food intolerance’s that have been diagnosed by their GP or dietitian, where the rest of us think we will jump on the next Hollywood diet fad and eliminate whole food groups from our diets.

My message to you is if you don’t have a food intolerance, don’t think that cutting out an entire food group will make you lose weight. It may just make you miss out on vital nutrients.

Make It Yourself

After reading the label on a box of ready-made pancake mix recently, I decided now would be a good time to talk about baked products. Even though baked products are not considered a desirable food choice on the DietDitch program, we realize that if you are going to follow our ideas for life, which is the only way a healthy eating program will ever be effective, there must be room for some baking once in awhile.

Yogurt Cheese

Firstly you need fresh, plain, real yogurt for this so it is best if you make it from scratch with a yogurt maker. Otherwise purchase the best organic, plain, low fat yogurt available.

Make sure you use washed muslin or cheese cloth for this recipe.

What is Gluten

bread

In this article we write about what foods contain gluten and give you a few interesting bits of  information on the subject.

Is going gluten free one of those latest food fads like oat bran bread and drinking soy milk was in the 70′s and 80′s?

The Food Pyramid

Food pryamid 1

I recently found myself browsing through a biochemistry textbook (Campbell and Farrell) in search of biochemists opinions about the obesity problem of today.

I have long thought the ‘food pyramid’ advising us what to eat and how many servings we should consume per day, is not the best indication of what we really should be eating for health and well-being.
