Orange and Almond Biscotti

P1010628

There is nothing nicer than the crunchy taste of a small slice of biscotti with tea or coffee. And for a treat, what better than something low in calories with no saturated fat. This is a recipe that requires 2 days to make but it is so worth it.

This biscotti only uses egg whites which is why they are low in saturated fat. However they do have white sugar and flour so treat them as a ‘just need something else’ food.

The Sweet Taste Of Success

When it comes to a healthy diet ‘sweet’ may not mean the taste of success. How many of you have started on a what you thought was a healthy eating program where you have restricted your calories and fats but do not have the success you expected.

Many of the popular weight loss programs actually encourage you to eat plenty of sugar and this may be why they fail. I understand you may be wondering what I am talking about – of course you don’t eat sugar when you are on a weight loss program. Right!

Let’s Have a Little Snack

We all like to snack, right. You know the feeling when you just feel like something but are not sure what.

At DietDitch we understand about the ‘4 o’clock flag’, that time in the afternoon when you are thinking about dinner but know that waiting until then just will not do – you need something and you need it now. So it is important to eat when you are hungry and to have something that is instantly satisfying.

The Long List

On the DietDitch program we encourage you to avoid the long list. Why is this so? Well because we have a sneaky suspicion that this list can actually be detrimental to your weight.

Recently I was looking in mom’s pantry to see what sort of lists I could find. This wasn’t so easy because eating the DietDitch way, she really doesn’t have much of anything with long list. I was impressed. Anyway I did find a couple of things, the first being a packet of crackers. These are labelled on the packet as a ‘wholesome, country style, wheat cracker that the whole family will love’.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) became popular as a supplement in 1958 when D. C Jarvis M.D. published his famous book ‘Folk Medicine: A Vermont Doctors’ Guide to Good Health’ This book was so popular it reportedly sold 245,000 copies in one week alone.

Among other things Davis was promoting the ‘you are what you eat’ mantra which, even though this book is now 60 + years old, the ‘you are what you eat’ idea is still good solid basic advise.
